August 2007:  Virginia Cover accepts the call to be the new Pastor for Trinity.  We all welcome Pastor and her husband Curtis Glidewell to Mechanicsburg, PA   Pastor Cover is a recent Graduate of the Lutheran Seminary at Philadelphia and has a bachelor degree in Music Education from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
December 2005: The Social Ministry Committee oversees a drive to collect items for Lutheran World Relief. The committee is able to send 52 quilts, 45 health kits, approximately 150 tee-shirts, and 182 blankets to LWR.
October 2005: The Rev. Amy Schifrin is named interim pastor.
May-June 2005: Pastor Julia Hart has announced her resignation as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. A service of farewell was conducted on June 26. Trinity experienced significant growth in worship and educational programs during her tenure, as well as in upgrades and renovations to the church property, designed to increase the warmth of the facilities. Several evangelism-focused events were begun, including Trinity-on-the-Green and direct-mail campaigns.
February 2005: The Social Ministry Committee’s Souper Bowl Sunday campaign netted 234 cans of soup for the food pantry at Messiah Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, and New Hope Ministries of Mechanicsburg. “Team Chicken Noodle” won over “Team Tomato” 128 to 106.
December 2005: The newly refurbished sanctuary is decorated for Christmas. See October-November below for information on the sanctuary project.

October-November 2004: Trinity Lutheran Church undertook a number of important projects including extensive refurbishing of the sanctuary. The work included painting, the installation of new carpet, and reconstruction of the front of the sanctuary to use space more efficiently. The congregation worshipped in the refurbished sanctuary for the first time on Nov. 14.

The photographs below show the sanctuary before the work began, reconstruction of the steps leading to the altardesigned to increase room at the front of the sanctuarythe marble effect added to the arch in front of the rose window, the installation of new light-equipped fans, and some of the members involved in the effort.

In addition to the refurbishment, the congregational projects included replacement of the heating-system boiler, carpeting in upstairs Sunday school rooms, and replacement of the large kitchen stove. A several-year capital campaign is under way to fund the projects. The finished sanctuary is depicted above.

With the youths are Pastor Hart, foreground, and Harvey Johnson, rear,  Trinity’s parish teaching student who concluded his assignment with Trinity the same day and has since returned to seminary to continue his studies toward the ordained ministry.

July  2003: Four youths from Trinity attended the national ELCA youth Gathering in Atlanta, Ga., called Ubuntu. While there, the youths and their leaders purchased new communion ware, designed especially for the Gathering, for Trinity congregation. The baskets were woven by women in a refugee camp operated by Tanganyika Christian Refugee Service. Gifts to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal help this Lutheran World Federation partner organization to assist some 60,000 refugees living in Tanzania, who have fled war or famine in their own countries.

July  2003: Trinity was decorated with color seascape scenes as part of SCUBA Bible School. Children from within and outside the congregation participated in a week of fun and educational activities in preparation for a picnic and program Friday evening.

May 2003: Trinity celebrates Music Sunday with a variety of performances by individual members of the congregation as well as all three of Trinity’s choir, children’s, youth, and adult. In the photo, Mrs. Robinette Butz, music director, stands beside the display case recognizing the joy music in all its expressions adds to the worship experience at Trinity Lutheran Church.

  • April 2003: Trinity Lutheran Church has created a new group for members over the age of 50, called the Keenagers. The group welcomes members and non-members alike! For more information, people are invited to contact Charles Whiting at 697-8842.
  • Dec. 8, 2002: Trinity Lutheran Church concluded its 150th anniversary celebration with a worship service and formal tea. Lower Susquehanna Synod Bishop Carol Hendrix preached. Two “daughter” congregations, Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, Pa., and Trinity Lutheran Church in Lemoyne, Pa.,  presented gifts to the congregation in honor of the anniversary, and Trinity received greetings from both Pennsylvania Gov. Mark Schweiker and President George W. Bush.

  • Oct. 5, 2002: Trinity Lutheran Church held its 150th Anniversary Banquet at First Church of God Community Center.

  • June 2002: Trinity has received a proclamation from the state House of Representatives in honor of its 150th anniversary. Rep. Jerry Naylor presented the proclamation to Pastor Hart during the worship service on Sunday, June 2. In addition, Trinity’s anniversary recently was featured in an article in The Patriot-News.
  • April 2002: Youth Sunday this year, said one long-time churchgoer, was the best he had ever experienced, especially as members of Trinity’s Youth Group talked about their “faith journeys.” Youth from Trinity conducted all portions of the worship service. During the service, the new youth bell choir performed for the first time.

  • April 24, 2002: Trinity Lutheran Church celebrated its first major 150th anniversary event with History Night. A variety of skits (see below) were used to dramatize, often with humor, the congregation's history. The contents of Trinity’s 1976 time capsule (immediately below) were also displayed during the event; see information about the time capsule on the Anniversary Events page. The photograph at bottom center shows the church display-case arrangement of memorabilia on members’ weddings that have been conducted at the church over the years.

  • On April 5 and 6, Pastor Hart traveled with 13 Lower Susquehanna Synod pastors and laity, as well as Bishop Carol S. Hendrix, to New York City and environs as part of Solidarity Weekend, an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America effort to show support for the pastors and congregations in the Metropolitan New York Synod, affected by the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.
  • On Palm Sunday (March 24), Trinity Lutheran Church used its refurbished and enhanced pipe organ for the first time since the extensive rebuilding project began in 2001. More components of the organ, including new pipes, will be installed over the next two months.
